Cost for Cincinnati's restroom plan could be going lower

A Cincinnati Council Committee could vote Tuesday on a plan to locate the city's first freestanding public restroom at Findlay Market.  

And the facility similar to the Portland Loo could cost a lot less than first thought.  

Last week the city manager said such a project could have a price tag of $130,000 with about $90,000 of that for the actual restroom facility.  But Council Member Chris Seelbach said the city may be able to get the restroom for about $40,000... lowering the overall cost.

Cincinnati could test freestanding restroom

"Portland Loo" in Portland, Oregon

Findlay Market could soon be home to Cincinnati's first freestanding public restroom.  And if the test location does well others could be added in Downtown and Over-the-Rhine.  

Several cities have such facilities.  Portland has successfully developed and placed several “Portland Loos.”

City officials said these freestanding facilities address the major negative issues associated with public restrooms.
