PROGRAMS: NEWS
Morning Edition
(5 - 9a.m.
Weekdays)
In 1979,
NPR executives borrowed All Things Considered co-host Bob Edwards for "a
couple of weeks" to help launch a new morning program. Bob never made it back to
the evening newsmagazine -- instead, he stuck around and helped turn Morning
Edition into one of the most listened-to and most respected newsmagazines in
the world. A two-hour mix of news, analysis, interviews, commentaries, arts,
features and music, Morning Edition is heard Monday through Friday on
more than 600 NPR stations across the United States, and around the globe on NPR
Worldwide. Its cast of regulars includes some of the most familiar voices on
radio: Correspondents Susan Stamberg, Renée Montagne, Madeleine Brand and Juan
Williams; commentators Frank Deford and Baxter Black; news analyst Cokie
Roberts; newscasters Jean Cochran and Carl Kasell; and Alex Chadwick, who leads
NPR's Radio Expeditions series in partnership with the National
Geographic Society.

All Things Considered
(4 – 7p.m. Weekdays)
Weekend All Things Considered (5 –
6p.m. Weekends)
For two hours every weekday, All Things Considered hosts Robert Siegel
and Michele Norris present the program's trademark mix of news, interviews,
commentaries, reviews, and offbeat features. Steve Inskeep hosts the weekend
program; and Melissa Block joins the weekday host lineup in February 2003. The
program rings with the disparate voices of its commentators, from veteran
analyst Daniel Schorr and storyteller Kevin Kling to poet Andrei Codrescu. It
hums with the distinctive music that threads between reports -- music collected
in the online program All Songs Considered. After more than 30 years on
the air, the program had earned many of journalism's highest honors, including
the Peabody,
DuPont and Overseas Press Club awards.

Weekend Edition
(8 – 10a.m. Weekends)
News doesn't stop on the weekends and neither does NPR. The pace of this
outstanding NPR newsmagazines is a little more relaxed and contemplative,
however. Whether it's the graceful prose of Scott Simon's essays on Saturday,
Liane Hansen on Sunday, conversations with news analyst Daniel Schorr, or
Sunday's puzzle with Will Shortz, weekends are special with Weekend Edition.
