| Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
Rated G
There’s no point in explaining this one. Either you’re very young and want to see it, or you’re not very young and don’t. Under any circumstances, don’t expect a cinematic masterpiece.

| Beauty And The Beast
Rated G
Since The Lion King in a retro 3D reissue was a big hit, Disney is going to milk the format for all it’s worth. If you loved the film before, it should be nice to see this upgrade. Someone should tell moviemakers that GOOD films in 3D is how you make the format popular.

| Contraband
Rated R
Action flick in which former smuggler Mark Wahlberg has to make one more score to keep his brother-in-law from bodily harm. This is a remake of a 2008 Icelandic flick, with the star of that one directing this one. Also featuring Kate Beckinsale (busy week for her), Giovanni Ribisi, and Ben Foster.

Rated PG
Martin Scorsese’s first venture into the realm of 3-D filmmaking (and a family film, yet) is a wonderful film. This story of a young boy living in the Paris train station in the 1920s is not only great storytelling, but the most fabulous use of the 3-D process yet. Plus it’s Scorsese’s valentine to film, its history, and the importance of its preservation. This is a must-see!

| Joyful Noise
Rated PG-13
No doubt inspired by all the TV shows in which people try to sing their way to fame and fortune, this is a ho-hum tale of a sing-off starring Whoopi Goldberg and Dolly Parton.

| Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Rated PG-13
This fourth installment of the series seems to benefit from considerable stunts and action plus an infusion of humor. Simon Pegg (Shaun Of The Dead) steals every scene he’s in, and Oscar-winning director Brad Bird (The Incredibles; Ratatouille) is more than capable of making the transition from animation to live action.

| My Week With Marilyn

Michelle Williams plays Marilyn Monroe while Kenneth Branagh is Laurence Olivier in this tale of their making The Prince And The Showgirl in 1957.

| Red Tails
Rated PG-13
The Tuskegee Airmen’s tale starring Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr. Although possessing some great aerial scenes, the dramatic content is a bit on the soapy side.

| Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows
Rated PG-13
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are back as Holmes and Watson in this action-packed sequel. If you liked the first one, this should be your cup of tea for the holidays.

| The Artist
Rated PG-13
Sensational film with terrific performances, and yes…it’s a silent film in black-and-white. Winner of three Golden Globes for Best Film Musical or Comedy, Best Actor, and Best Original Score. This is a must-see film!

Also garnering much Oscar buzz is Alexander Payne’s new movie starring George Clooney as a man living in Hawaii trying to keep his family together. Payne directed the audience and critic’s favorite SIDEWAYS a few years back.

| The Muppets
Rated PG
These goofy critters haven’t had a big screen appearance since 1992, so there should be a sizeable audience eagerly anticipating this newest escapade. Only thing that escapes me is…couldn’t they have thought of a more original title?

| Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn
Rated PG-13
The never-dying vampire saga puts the bite on audiences for a sizeable piece of box office coin, even though it’s highly unlikely this will appeal to much more than the “teenage girl” audience. Still…in showbiz, money talks. And until people stop paying for them, count on more “Twilight” movies in the years to come.

| Underworld: Awakening
Rated R
Another futuristic vampire saga starring Kate Beckinsale. Haven’t there been enough of these? It’s stuff like this that is driving audiences away from 3D in droves.
