City of Cincinnati employees will observe  Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday.  That means garbage and recycling collection will be delayed by one day all week.

Monday's pickup will be Tuesday, Tuesday's pickup will be Wednesday, and so forth.

A construction zone will be set up on Pete Rose Way from Broadway to Johnny Bench Way so workers can safely remove the steel structure of the pedestrian bridge over Pete Rose Way to the Arena/Ball Park Plaza.

It's a continuation of the work that removed concrete decking from the bridge this week.

Removal of the steel structure starts Monday, January 21, and lasts until the following Sunday, February 3, unless it's completed sooner.  

The new pedestrian bridge, part of The Banks project, is scheduled to open in October.

Hamilton's popular IceFest is back this weekend. The two-day festival features more than 80 ice sculptures scattered throughout downtown.

Chairman Tim Naab says this year's theme is "landmarks of the world".

Cincinnati police say homicides and violent crime were down overall last year compared to 2011.

Chief James Craig wants to see that trend continue this year.

"We've set for 2013 a very modest overall crime reduction goal of five percent. We had a five percent goal at the beginning of 2012 and we certainly exceeded that, ending the year with a ten percent reduction in overall crime," he says.

Over-the-Rhine, Avondale and Winton Hills saw the biggest drops in homicides. Walnut Hills and East Price Hill both saw increases.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is holding a meeting Thursday evening to get input on plans to reconstruct the I-71/75 interchange at Mt. Zion Road.

The Cabinet said in a press release it will be displaying all the various alternates still under consideration for such a project.

The public can view these and make comments.  Written comments will be accepted during the meeting and for up to 15 days after the session.  Officials will also be available to answer questions.
