2009 was a strong year for tourism in the Queen City. At Thursday’s Cincinnati USA Convention and Visitors Bureau annual meeting, President Dan Lincoln told attendees the C-V-B hit a record-setting $59 million in new visitor spending last year. Combined with a record number of contracts for future hotel room nights, the bureau recorded a 5-and-a-half percent increase over 2008. While other big cities were losing major event contracts because of the poor economy, Lincoln says Cincinnati lost only one. “Our sales team and the leadership of the hospitality community really took great pains to reach out to all of our 2009 customers and make sure they were happy, they were secure. ‘Was there anything we could do to make sure that instead of canceling we can help you maintain your convention?’ And then we also created a lot of tools to help them maintain their attendance.” Lincoln says the goal for 2010 is to increase future convention bookings another six percent. The C-V-B has already landed several high-revenue events, including the 2012 World Choir Games. That undertaking is being hailed as the region’s largest international event ever.
