Compromise possible on Metro Access fares

If City Council approves the plan next week, Cincinnati Metro will be able to increase its rates for disabled riders. But the bus service will implement the Access fare hike in 2 phases. The first would be on December 27th and the other in June. Metro’s Chief Administrative Officer Sallie Hilvers says it’s a workable alternative. The plan came together after Metro officials met Thursday with Mayor Mark Mallory and 2 Council Members. Within the city, Access riders would pay $2.50 later this year and that increases to $3.50 in the summer. For county riders the fee would increase to $3.50 in a few weeks and up to $4.50 in June. Council approved higher rates for regular Metro riders earlier this week. Even with the additional revenue, the agency will reduce bus service by 12 percent and lay off 82 more employees.
