Ohio Senator leads boycott on climate change legislation
By Capitol News Connection
11/3/2009 5:21:11 PM

Ohio Republican George Voinovich sparked a partisan boycott on the Senate environment committee. The fight is over a climate change bill that could have a big impact on Ohio’s economy. Matt Laslo reports from Washington.

NARR: Because of Voinovich Republicans are refusing to debate a global warming bill. For months he has asked the Environmental Protection Agency to analyze the climate legislation. The E-P-A says a complete economic assessment would take an extra five weeks. Chairwoman Barbara Boxer says the committee has enough information. Voinovich spoke for the other Republicans at the mark up.

VOINOVICH1 “I do wanna work on a bi-partisan basi s. I think we can get something done. And I’m asking madam chairman, and I’m asking this committee: give us some time; get the information that we need.” (:19)

Five other committees are also working on the cap and trade bill. Democrats say it’s a waste of time to ask for a complete assessment before all the committees finish their work.

From Capitol News Connection, I'm Matt Laslo for 91 point 7 WVXU.
