Metro to unveil new hybrid buses
By Mark Heyne

If you see a parade of buses making its way through Cincinnati Tuesday morning, it's not your imagination. It's Metro's way of unveiling six hybrids that are being added to its fleet. The new buses will officially go into service on Wednesday, which is Earth Day. That's appropriate since the vehicles will produce less emissions and use 30 percent less fuel. Metro Chief Administrative Officer Sallie Hilvers says there will be about 95 percent less soot coming out of the hybrids, a 90 percent reduction in hydrocarbons and about 50 percent less nitrogen oxide, which again is a major component in the smog problems in Greater Cincinnati. The lime color buses with the words "Go Green" on the side will start their parade in Eden Park at 11 o'clock. They'll make their way into downtown Cincinnati and end at Government Square. These are Metro's first six hybrids. Federal grant money helped pay for them. More hybrid buses will be added next year, using stimulus funding.
