Water returns to Cincinnati Museum Center fountain

For three years the Cincinnati Museum Center has invited the community to participate as the water is turned on for the summer in its iconic fountain. Museum members and guests gathered Friday morning as the countdown began.

Sarah Bowman and her 2 1/2-year-old daughter Mimi of Fairfield waited patiently to the sounds of Jimmy Buffet music. Staff members passed out temporary tattoos to the children.

Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibition

An important part of human history is now on display at the Cincinnati Museum Center. The exhibition Dead Sea Scrolls: Life and Faith in Ancient Times opened recently and will be in Cincinnati through mid-April. Dr. Risa Levitt Kohn, co-curator of this exhibition and professor of Hebrew Bible and Judaism at San Diego State University, recently sat down with Mark Perzel to discuss the importance of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, what visitors can expect to see when they visit, and the extreme care that is taken to preserve these artifacts.

They're some of the most important historical documents ever discovered and now they're here in Cincinnati.

The Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit opens Friday, November 16th at the Museum Center.

It features more than 600 objects ranging from pottery to the scrolls themselves.

Uzi Dahari is deputy director of archaeology with the Israel Antiquity Authority.

"All these phases in making a monotheistic nation, we can see in this exhibit step by step. That's the uniqueness of this exhibition," he says.

Museum Center earns top accreditation

The Cincinnati Museum Center is being recognized for excellence among museums.

It is now accredited by the American Association of Museums, an honor it says only 4.5 percent of museums nationwide achieve.

The museum had to conduct a year-long self study and pass a site visit. It generally takes three years to complete the process.

The Museum Center earned high marks for its youth programs and annual Learning Through Play conference.

The Cincinnati Art Museum, the Taft Museum of Art and the Zoo are also on the accredited list.
