Thank you to all our members completed the WMUB Listener Survey last spring. More than 7,000 WMUB and WGUC members and listeners submitted their thoughts, resulting in a response rate that exceeded 40%. This response was very impressive and speaks to your passion for public radio. Your feedback helped inform our programming decisions for WMUB and we appreciate your involvement.
Topping the list of favorite programs for WMUB members was Morning Edition, followed by The Diane Rehm Show, Prairie Home Companion and Fresh Air. Members also told us they most wanted to hear This American Life, Talk of the Nation, Whad'Yya Know, and jazz. More Diane Rehm and world news also topped their wish list.
There were also some mixed reviews. Every program was found in respondents' lists of favorite and least favorite programs. However, programs at the top of the favorites list were there by a wide majority. Those with a mixed response attracted an approximately equal number of positive and negative responses.
Classic radio, swing music and alternative music programs were found among the choices listed for favorite and least favorite programs. No local program appeared on the top ten list. Many were the subject of verbatim responses that indicated they were perceived as infomercials. However, local information was seen as very valuable, especially weather, hourly newscasts, traffic, city news and local events.
As a result, the favorite programs Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Fresh Air form the foundation for the new WMUB weekday schedule and The Diane Rehm Show has been expanded to two hours. Joining the lineup are the new programs Day to Day, Talk of the Nation, and The World.
The weekends are filled with great entertainment from Prairie Home Companion, Car Talk, Whad'Ya Know and Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me; as well as informative and thought provoking fare like Weekend Edition, This American Life, Marketplace Money, and Speaking of Faith. Plus, Cincinnati Edition and Around Cincinnati will provide new local forums for a wide variety of topics and issues.
And, last but not least, we're thrilled to be able to showcase jazz on Sunday evenings, swing music on Saturday evenings and classic radio on weekday evenings.
